1968 Jaguar E-Type

Battle Creek, MI

The Story

I’ve had this Jaguar for 47 years now. Back in 1980, I was working as a UPS driver around Coldwater Lake, and the guy who owned the marina had the car sitting in his garage up against the wall. I bugged him for an entire year before he finally agreed to sell it to me. I probably overpaid for it at the time, giving him $7,500.

Once, I drove the car all the way out to Los Angeles. On the way back home, I was driving through Nebraska on a Saturday when I got pulled over by a state trooper. I decided to take the honest approach with him. He asked me if I knew why he pulled me over, and I told him I must have been speeding because I was listening to the Cornhuskers game on the radio and got a little carried away.

He ended up excited that I was a Cornhusker fan, or at least pretended to be, so he let me off and told me to just keep it under the speed limit. Then he asked about the car and stood there admiring it.
