1956 Cadillac Sedan de Ville

West Michigan

The Story

My interest in cars started in 1997 when my wife bought me a 1957 Olds 98 for my 40th birthday. I had fond memories of that being my first car when I was 15. Since then, I restored two 1956 Cadillac Coupe de Villes after 2000. I ended up selling both of them, thinking a four-door Cadillac would be more enjoyable and easier for the family to get in and out of.

I found my present car on eBay around 2010 from a gentleman in Tennessee. Before that, the car had spent most of its life in Arizona, and it was even owned by a TV star for part of its life. When I got it, the car was complete and rust-free, but everything was just tired.

My first thought was to keep the car original, with its patina, and leave it unrestored. But I gradually worked my way around the entire car, eventually doing a complete body-on restoration. Now, the only portions not redone on the car are the door panels and some of the front-end chrome. I just couldn't leave well enough alone.
