1965 Chevrolet Impala SS

The Story

My wife and I met in this car back in 1975. We restored it together, but we chose to keep one specific piece of damage on the window trim. Someone had used a screwdriver to break into the car years ago just to steal the 8-track player, and we kept those marks there as a memory.

The car still has its original 327 engine and four-speed transmission, though they spent a long time apart. The engine was actually taken out and run in my dad's truck for over thirty years. When it was time to restore the '65, we used a front-end loader to lift the engine out of the truck and put it back where it belonged.

We did a lot of the restoration work ourselves. We hand-polished all of the stainless steel to make it look like chrome, and we installed the headliner ourselves even though we were told not to try it. To be honest, it looks like it came from the factory this way.
