1979 Honda CT70

The Story

When I first got my hands on this 1979 Honda CT70, it was in rough shape. A mouse had built a giant nest inside, apparently deciding the wiring was edible because every single wire was chewed completely through. Bringing it back to life required a lot of patience and a steady stream of parts, including a new wiring harness, a fresh battery, a new set of points and condenser, and a replacement for the heavily rusted gas tank. I initially tried to rebuild the original carburetor, but finding replacement pieces for the choke proved too difficult, so I ended up sourcing a complete replacement carburetor instead.

It still wears a bit of rust, but the character of the bike is entirely intact. There is a simple, uncomplicated joy in these small-displacement Hondas that you cannot find anywhere else. Now that the mechanical gremlins are sorted, it has become incredibly fun to just start it up and ride it around the neighborhood.
